FLAG FOOTBALL

Flag Football:

Instructional Flag (Prek/K): Our "learn -to-play" level is a 6-week program designed to introduce the core skills of throwing, catching, running, flag pulling, and team work. Practices are weekly and led as a large group. Players will be encouraged to participate in homecoming and team bonding activities.

Junior Flag (Grades 1/2): 10 week program, designed to introduce game rules and competitive play. Players will be introduced to basic formations, offensive plays, defensive coverage, blocking and continue to develop their throwing, catching, and receiving. Practices are 2x per week. Intersquad scrimmage or game versus outside team are TBD and commonly held on Saturdays either at our practice field or at a local location tbd.

Senior Flag (Grades 3/4): 10 week program, designed to be an advanced level of game play and preparation for tackle football. Focus will be particular on stance and form, hand techniques for blocking, and advanced offensive/defensive formations. Practices are 2x per week. Intersquad scrimmage or game versus outside team are TBD and commonly held on Saturdays either at our practice field or at a local location tbd.

TACKLE FOOTBALL

BSCYF is a member of the Capital District Youth Football League (CDYFL) who develops and enforces Player and Game rules as well as the game schedule.

Please see more information here to better understand the age and weight restrictions we follow. For questions, please contact Director of Tackle Ron Redmond at 518-596-8020.

Junior Tackle (Grades 3/4): 11 week program, with practices 4x per week (during August) and 2x per week (September and October), weekly team meetings, and 8 games (organized by the CDYFL) held on Saturdays starting September 7. This level is introductory and has heavy emphasis on teaching proper tackling habits and stance, becoming comfortable with equipment and performing with equipment, learning the job and role for each of the 11 positions, building team trust and friendships, and developing player perseverance and confidence.

Senior Tackle (Grades 5/6): 11 week program, with practices 4x per week (during August) and 2x per week (September and October), weekly team meetings, and 8 games (organized by the CDYFL) held on Saturdays starting September 7. This level is more comepetitive. We continue to reinforce proper tackling form but also begin to support players with technique on their stance and hand positions for more competitive play. Players continue to learn defensive and offensive formations, as well as the importance of team work and communication with each other. Building team trust and friendships is at the core of our program as well as developing player perseverance, confidence, and understanding of the game. **New in 2024, unofficially the CDYFL Leage intends to further divide this division into a 5th grade team and 6th grade teams.***

BSHS Varsity Coach Ohnsman and additional HS coaches/players will host a Youth Football Camp on July 1 (Monday) through July 3 (Wednesday) from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm at Middle School Field. They will run football drills and practice foot/hand skills. This is a non-contact camp therefore it is appropriate for all levels of play from beginner to advanced, for Grades 1-6 (as of Fall 2024). Participants should wear sunscreen, bring a refillable water bottle, and a snack. BSCYF will also provide a special gift for participants. Camp is held rain or shine (we will only cancel due to severe weather or lightning in the area).

Please plan to drop off participants by 8:45 am for warm-ups and check-in. Parents will need to sign-in on the first day only and confirm emergency contact information. Participants will not be released without an adult. Pick-up is promptly at 12:00 pm, please plan schedules accordingly as the parking lot can be congested with everyone departing at the same time.

2024 PRE-SEASON TEAM CLINIC

BSCYF Coaches host an annual team clinic each year. On August 5-8 (Monday - Thursday) from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm each evening, we meet at the Middle School fields for pre-season team drills. Groups will be separated by division (flag v. tackle) and grades (1/2, 3/4, 5/6). This is a great opportunity for your player to get to know the coaches and for your coaches to get to know your player's skill level and development opportunities.
